Back to Our Roots

I was born far from where I now live, I was about 3 when my parents moved back to Saskatchewan after living in British Columbia for several years.  Several months ago we were at an antique show and found a Medalta piece from the city in which I was born.  Although the cup is a little battered it was simply the city name on it that captured my attention.

Charles was born and raised in Saskatchewan and
we have been lucky enough to find some pieces
from  his home town as well.

Where ever life leads you there are always many fond memories and stories from the place of your birth and childhood adventures  It is always exciting to find Medalta advertising from your home province knowing that they are fairly scarce.

We were recently at another antique show and saw some Medalta, brought some home, met some collectors and once again learned lots more about things we had not seen before.  There is still so much to see and so much to learn!

Another Great Adventure

We have returned from another adventure!  We were away for a few days and did some exploring, some shopping and some searching, we did find some treasures and we will share them soon.

We think it is important is to help maintain the history of Medalta Potteries for others to enjoy and learn from.  We have sent a few things to the Friends of Medalta as we believe some pieces are better off somewhere that they will be available for many people to see and learn from.

It is exciting to find a plate or vase or bowl that really does not fit the regular pattern of anything that we have seen before and then try and solve the mystery.

We have Medalta Pottery as well as a few pieces of Medicine Hat Potteries, Alberta Potteries and P.I.E. pieces in our collection, the criteria we have for adding to our collection is whether we have one like it and whether or not we like it.

Once everything is home and unpacked it is time to put things away and figure out how best to display so that we can enjoy looking at them, at least until the next one comes along.  We have debated about putting like pieces together, or putting the different companies together but in the end we put things away in a manner that we can see the newest pieces.

How do you display your collections or favorite things?
